MEET THE ARTIST
Born in 1991 in Constanta, Romania
About himself :
I don’t have a particular style. I juggle between realism, superrealism, figurative and abstract art depending on what energy I want to expose. Every style is a way to express energy.Realism gives joy to the mind because the mind can comprehend the message of the artist directly. Paradoxically ,abstract art is a way to express things as they are in reality, formless,in their essence. Things are moving too fast to catch their form. We can say that the more abstract a painting is the more profound it is because without perceiving any shape or form the watcher is forced to feel and not to think,to use his sixth sense and let aside the other five which he uses way too much in everyday life. In the end is all about energy because everything is energy.Art,even if it is music, sculpture, painting or other mediums has only one goal.Evolution.Therefore my whole passion is to make the watcher richer after he leaves the museum.

Surrealist and Dadaistic tendencies
The artistic conception of the young painter Orban Andrei proves that Dadaism and Surrealism are long-lived and have a very powerful impact on the younger generation. These art movements, born out of a state of revolt of younger generation of the 1916s against all forms of modern civilization, against their own foundations are using grotesque and absurd to ‘create’ an ‘opera’ that goes beyond any imaginable limit.Even today, their revolution is still exhibiting a total willingness to deny everything that was called art, morals, institutions and social values.
Surrealism based on the absurd and unpredictable gives a lot of value to the dream state.Poetry and art are perceived as poetic in their “surreal”dimension. This desire to “transform the world” determined Orban Andrei to approach unexpected forms of artistic expression.
Report with painting and life
Orban Andrei is the concrete situation in which “he” – the painter often represents himself in work as its author, creating an image, a representation of him in his opera. In his works he attributes himself to “self authorship” that gives his work the value of a formative force, which develops and defines itself in relation with his work, being the “application” in the process of this representation.
His works are “speech” of the self, without masks and subterfuge, covering jumps from era to era, from space to space through pictorial representation methods.
Regardless of the type of discourse he choses to use,we see beyond the psychological dimension a way to self-definition,self-knowledge and self-preservation of the author in his artistic beginning,in his paintings that open the way to a proper inner vision,in the context of contemporary art.
Pictorial style and thematic
Thematic and stylistic are another direction of finding the young painter’s expressions.Angels are here protectors of the nooks, intimacy and closeness of things, of approach between micro-universes.
Note in the paintings the lightness with which the painter treats the metaphysical, carnivalesque and Cupid specific playfulness as a natural tendency to balance pathos.
We also draw attention to the angels who are close to Hindu Eros who was Baroque – Rococo and almost exclusively sensorial.Dionysian, in contrast with Elen Eros, who was sublimated, etherified.
In this series of pictorial tinted ritual,”the virgin” has a special place, who finds the artistic ego erotic desire.Angels appear even in their classic depiction of messengers, bearers of artistic direction. This way the pictorial universe of Orban Andrei is under the sign of eroticism,of the senses carnivalesque.”Angels” have no connections with religious imagery, they are projections of ego discovering erotic desire (Cupid). This deity who generates a lyrical carnival of lust, where ego adopt recurrent forms of Baroque – Rococo such as disguise, concealment or delusion. We meet in his pictorial speech an exacerbation of form in detriment of content, a calculated exuberance, a lucid enthusiasm, a seeking naivety, a gentle boldness.
The pictorial speech of Orban Andrei is a trademark of reconciliation with himself,of recognition of his identity, being at the same time selfconscious of his “”trickster” alter ego, being the spectator and the object of the show, the actor and the director of the carnival where the viewer finds favorable time to return to himself and enjoy the hazard of his own condition. The condition of a clown and angel,of the body and soul.
In the painter’s view, figures of angels are manifested as a pretext playful – ironically, being in resonance with aspects which doesn’t characterize them : sensorial, physical, sensuality, playfulness and carnivalesque.
Coquetry with French paintings of the eighteenth – century. The reactualization of Rococo, the style of the XXI century.
We can talk about his paintings as being Neo – Rococo with specific characters and attitudes of past times used as accessories, common among young people today, focusing on the erotic side used before by French painters like Jean – Honore Fragonard and Francois Boucher. This specific style is known to transmit a wave of honesty and purity of the artistic point of view.
Orban Andrei offers a glimpse of the unseen part, exploring his inner world which surprises even him, as an author.
In the painterly style of Orban Andrei we can talk about unrealistic realism. But what is reality? The reality is the one revealed by his own pursuit of happiness.
The Abstract image is leading us inwards, as for the rest we can simply photograph.Hedonism – the pursuit of pleasure in everything, is another way in witch Orban Andrei induces joy to exist in everyday life.I am confident that his paintings resonate with his generation, a generation sophisticated in it’s own way, oscillating between real and virtual enviroments.
